Medicare has four main parts. Knowing what each one covers makes it easier to pick a plan that fits your health needs and budget.
Hospital Insurance
Helps cover inpatient hospital stays, skilled nursing facility care, hospice, and some home health services. Most people pay no premium for Part A.
Medical Insurance
Covers doctor visits, outpatient care, preventive screenings, lab work, and durable medical equipment. Part B has a monthly premium set each year.
Medicare Advantage
An all-in-one alternative to Original Medicare offered by private carriers. Often bundles Part A, Part B, Part D, and extras like dental, vision, hearing, or fitness.
Prescription Drug Coverage
Helps pay for the prescriptions you take at home. Plan formularies, copays, and pharmacy networks vary, so it pays to compare against the medications you actually take.
Benefits You May Be Missing
Many Medicare Advantage plans now include extras beyond what Original Medicare offers. Depending on where you live, you may qualify for:
When Can You Enroll?
Medicare uses specific enrollment windows. Missing one can mean a late penalty or waiting months for coverage — an agent can confirm which window applies to you.
Around your 65th birthday
A 7-month window: the 3 months before, the month of, and the 3 months after the month you turn 65.
Oct 15 – Dec 7
Switch, drop, or join Medicare Advantage and Part D plans for coverage starting January 1.
Jan 1 – Mar 31
Already on Medicare Advantage? You can switch to a different MA plan or back to Original Medicare once during this window.
Life events
Moving, losing employer coverage, or qualifying for Extra Help can open a Special Enrollment Period outside the usual dates.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is there any cost to talk with an agent?
No. Speaking with a licensed agent through Consumer Support Help is completely free. Agents are typically compensated by the insurance carriers they represent, not by you.
Do I have to switch plans if I call?
Not at all. Many people call just to confirm their current plan still fits, or to understand what else is available. You're never obligated to enroll.
Will the agent know which plans cover my doctors and prescriptions?
Yes. With your ZIP code, doctor names, and a list of medications, your agent can check which plans include your providers in-network and which formularies cover your prescriptions.
What's the difference between Medicare Advantage and Medicare Supplement?
Medicare Advantage (Part C) replaces Original Medicare and usually bundles drug coverage and extras. Medicare Supplement (Medigap) works alongside Original Medicare to help pay your share of costs like deductibles and coinsurance, but doesn't include Part D. An agent can walk you through the trade-offs.
Do you offer every plan in my area?
We do not offer every plan available in your area. Any information we provide is limited to the plans we represent in your region. Please contact Medicare.gov, 1-800-MEDICARE, or your local State Health Insurance Assistance Program (SHIP) to get information on all of your options.
What if I'm under 65 but on Medicare due to disability?
You may still qualify for Medicare Advantage and Part D plans in many areas. An agent can confirm what's available based on your situation and ZIP code.
